Otakar Štěrba

Otakar Štěrba, respected ecologist, who likes traveling around the world and catches interesting facts with his camera about the enviroment we live in. Continental waters are areas of his special interest. His first two documentaries he made in cooperation with the film production company Krátký Film Praha in the early eighties last century. Later on he started working for The Czechoslovakia TV; documentary The Czechoslovakian Women in the Himalayas (1985) and as a scriptwriter of a serial The World Geography, Stories from the Pacific islands (2002). Within two years (2005-2007) he filmed and directed his documentary A Hospital at World´s End (2008) which is special in his filmmaking thanks to its strong humanitarian attitude. We would like to mention Otakar Šterba´s important role he played in reintroduction of beaver into the Czech´s landscape and he initiated the Litovelské Pomoraví locality, situated in Central Moravia, to be recognized as a protected landscape zone.


Významný ekolog Otakar Štěrba na cestách po světě s oblibou dokumentuje životní prostředí pomocí kamery, zvláště v oblasti kontinentálních vod. První režijní dokumenty Velká řeka (1980) a Velké krajinné ekosystémy (1981) vyrobil ve spolupráci s Krátkým filmem Praha. Následně začal spolupracovat s Československou televizí jako režisér dokumentu Československé ženy v Himalájích (1985) a také se podílel tvorbou scénáře na pětidílném seriálu Zeměpis světa – Příběhy z ostrovních říší Tichomoří (2002). V letech 2005 až 2007 v Pákistánu natáčel a režíroval dokumentární film Nemocnice na konci světa (2008), který v jeho tvorbě vyniká svou humanitární stránkou.
Tato osobnost stojí za reintrodukcí bobra do české přírody a také je iniciátor vyhlášení Chráněné krajinné oblasti Litovelské Pomoraví.
